Open Forum, PhoMo Training Runs and the Dog Days of December

Greetings from GhostHead HQ! We hope you all are staying cool, or at least finding ways to embrace the heat. Here’s what’s new and upcoming on our calendar.

OPEN FORUM WITH JACKY HUNT-BROERSMA and PHOMO COURSE PREVIEW

What does it take to run 104 marathons in 104 days, maintain a streak of running 21k a day for 250 days, come in 3rd in the Elite Para-Division at the Boston Marathon and 1st in the Para Pro Division at the Boston Half Marathon? We’ll ask Jacky Hunt-Broersma about her drive, her ability to adapt and overcome cancer and the loss of her leg, and more on August 10 at our next Open Forum.

We’ll have a 4 mile No-Drop, Group Run starting at 6:00am that will preview the first section of the PhoMo 50k course. Sole Sports will be on hand to demo the latest from Altra. Coffee, donuts, and treats from Home Spun Cuisine will be provided. Stay for the raffle where we’ll be giving away a free pair of shoes, curtesy of Altra.

PHOMO 50K

This year’s PhoMo 50k is sold out, but if the FOMO is strong, you can still join our Waitlist. There is no fee for signing up unless your name is pulled. The only cost is missing out.

PHOMO TRAINING RUN #2

If you are signed up for this year’s PhoMo50k, or just want to experience part of the course, come out to our 2nd Training Run on September 14. We will be meeting at 6:00am, at the North Mountain Visitor Center, to run the Shaw Butte section (~6 miles). All are welcome to this No-Drop event.

TRAIL WORK DAY

Need volunteer hours or just want to help maintain our trails in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve? Then join us for our third Trail Work Event on September 28, starting at 6:00am. Once again we will be working with the City of Phoenix and the Park Ranger Trail Alliance to rake, move rock and get the trails buffed and shiny for the PhoMo50k. No experience is necessary. Bring gloves, water and sun protection.

Meet at the Ocotillo Trailhead at Piestewa Peak Park. Arrive 15 minutes early (5:45am) for a Safety Briefing and Waiver Signing. RSVP on our Strava Page.

PUP-A-GO 5K

Registration is open for our December event, the Pup-A-Go 5k. Run, walk or fancy-trot this 3 mile course around Papago Park, with or without a furry companion. This is an opportunity to give your dog the gift of a sprint finish or snazzy participant’s bandanna this holiday season. A portion of the proceeds will go to Home Fur Good Animal Shelter, whose volunteers will be on hand for adoption opportunities. Sign up at Ultrasignup.

That’s all for this month. We hope to see you at one of our events or out on the trails! (Unless you’ve found a beach for the summer, then we totally understand.)
